Abstract
The aerobic interval training program was conducted for eight weeks, three sessions per week, with a progressive increase in duration (20 to 60 minutes) and intensity (60–75% of heart rate reserve, calculated using the Karvonen formula). During weeks 1 and 2, participants exercised for 20 minutes at 60% heart rate reserve, while in weeks 7 and 8, training duration increased to 60 minutes at 75% heart rate reserve. Each training session included a 10-minute warm-up (brisk walking and stretching exercises) and a 5-minute cool-down (light jogging and stretching). Plasma Aβ42/Aβ40 ratio and metabolic control indices were measured before and after the intervention using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Fasting blood glucose (FBG), HDL, and insulin levels were measured enzymatically, and insulin resistance was calculated using a standard formula. Paired and independent t-tests were used for statistical analysis at a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: Paired t-test results showed a significant difference in HOMA-IR between pretest and posttest measurements in both the control (p = 0.006) and aerobic interval training groups (p = 0.002). Next, the results of an independent t-test on the amount of change (Δ) showed that the HOMA-IR value decreased in the aerobic interval training group compared to the control group. However, for other variables, including fasting blood glucose, HDL, and the Aβ42/Aβ40 ratio, significant changes were observed only in the aerobic interval training group (FBG: p = 0.001; HDL: p = 0.02; Aβ42/Aβ40: p = 0.002).
