Abstract

Objective: Overweight and obesity is one of the most important lifestyle-related diseases that threatens human health. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of an 8-week weight loss diet with and without aerobic exercise on serum IL6 concentration, CPR, and lipid profile in overweight women.
Methodology: In this quasi-experimental study, 40 overweight women (age = 35.20 ± 2.98, BMI = 27.17 ± 1.86) were selected as available subjects and randomly divided into 4 groups: exercise-weight loss diet (n = 10), exercise group (n = 10), weight loss diet group (n = 10), and control group (n = 10). The high-intensity interval training protocol was implemented for eight weeks (three sessions per week). Blood samples were collected in pre- and post-test conditions to measure blood variables. Data were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance with repeated measures and Tukey's post hoc test using SPSS software version 24 at a significance level of p<0.05.
Results: Based on the results of the 2-way, there was a single time effect and a double effect of time and group in serum levels of CRP (P=0.001), IL6 (P=0.001), HDL (P=0.001), LDL (P=0.001), TG (P=0.001) and TC (P=0). Based on the results of the post hoc test, no significant difference was observed in the rate of changes studied in all groups (P≤0.05).
Conclusion:It seems the combining a weight-loss diet and exercise can be effective treatment approach for weight loss, improving body composition, and reducing chronic inflammation in overweight women
