Purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of combined aerobic and resistance training (ART) on adipose tissue levels of SRA and insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR) in old rats. Twenty old female rat (24-28 weeks old, 379/20±13/30 gr) selected and were randomly divided into experimental and control groups (10 ones in each). The rats in the experimental group participated in eight weeks of ART, six days a week. Aerobic training consisted of running on a treadmill at low to moderate intensity (40-60% of the maximum speed obtained in the maximum running test), 60 minutes per session. Resistance training compromised climbing a ladder at an intensity equal to 40-60% of the force obtained in the maximum load test, 15 repetitions with a one-minute rest interval, and 45 minutes per session. Eight weeks of ART resulted in significant increases in adipose tissue levels of SRA in addition to significant decreases in levels of insulin and fasting blood glucose , HOMA-IR and body weight in the experimental group compared to the control group. Furthermore, eight weeks of ART caused in significant decreases in body weight in post-test compared to pre-test. it seems that eight weeks of combined aerobic and resistance training plays a role in improving insulin resistance and body composition despite of increasing SRA levels.

Background: The exercise training and vegetarian diets have been accepted as a suitable and non-pharmacological method to improve lifestyle and reduce metabolic diseases, including diabetes and metabolic syndrome. The aim of this study was to investigate the combined effect of aerobic exercise and vegetarian diet on insulin resistance factors.Methods: The PubMed, Web of Science, SID, Magiran, and Google scholar databases were searched until February 2022 for English articles. Meta-analyses were performed to compare the impact of aerobic exercise and vegetarian diet on insulin resistance factors (fasting glucose, insulin, and HOMA-IR). Standardized mean differences (SMD), weighted mean differences (WMD), and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated using random and fixed effect models. Also, the I2 test was used to determine heterogeneity, and the Funnel plot and Egger tests at a significant level of 0.1 were used to determine publication bias.Results: The results of meta-analysis of 29 studies with 10019 adults, showed that aerobic exercise and vegetarian diet significantly decreased in body weight [WMD=-4.49, (CI: -6.27 to -2.72), p=0.001], fasting serum glucose [SMD=-0.46, (CI: -0.65 to -0.27), p=0.001], serum insulin [SMD=-0.42, (CI: -0.52 to -0.32), p=0.001], and HOMA-IR [WMD=-0.73, (CI: -0.97 to -0.49), p=0.001].Conclusion: The findings of the present meta-analysis show the important role of exercise and vegetarian diet in improving insulin resistance. So, aerobic exercise and vegetarian diet are suggested as a non-drug approach for reducing fasting insulin and glucose for adults.

Introduction: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a condition in which the accumulation of fat in the liver increases. Exercise training can improve the condition by preventing excessive accumulation of fat in the liver as a non-pharmacological intervention and preventing the progression of the disease to chronic liver disease. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of combined exercises training with two intensities on FGF-21, insulin resistance, liver enzymes and body composition of women with fatty liver.Materials and Methods: 33 women with NAFLD with a mean age of 57.7 ± 45.43 years and a body mass index of 84.32 6 6 kg/m2 randomly divided into three equal groups; aerobic interval training (AIT); high intensity interval training (HIIT); and controls. The training program was performed for 12 weeks and 3 sessions per week. The variables were measured before and after the training program. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance with repeated measures (p< 0.05). Results: The results showed that HOMA-IR index and serum FGF-21 were significantly reduced in the combined training groups compared to the control (p<0.05). No significant effect or difference was observed in ALT and AST enzyme levels. Also, a significant decrease in body fat percentage was observed (p<0.05). Conclusion: It seems that women with NAFLD are likely to be able to use both combined resistance training intensity and moderate to severe interval as a non-pharmacological solution to reduce fat percentage and improve insulin and FGF-21 resistance.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of high intensity interval training (HIIT) and Portulaca Oleracea extract on Angiopoietin-like 4 Protein (ANGPTL4) level and insulin resistance in rats with NAFLD. Methods: Twenty five male Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups: healthy control, fatty liver control, HIIT, Portulaca Oleracea extract, and HIIT+Portulaca Oleracea extract. To induce NAFLD, the rats were fed a high-fat diet for 12 weeks. Portulaca Oleracea supplement at 400 mg/kg was given to the experimental groups. HIIT was performed for 8 weeks, 5 sessions per week at 90% maximum speed. Hepatic ANGPTL4 level and insulin resistance were measured after 8 weeks of HIIT and consumption of purslane extract. One way anova and tukey post hoc test was used for data analysis.Results: Insulin resistance was significantly higher in fatty liver control group than healthy controls (P=0.002). But it was significantly lower in HIIT group (P=0.01), Portulaca Oleracea extract (P=0.037), and HIIT+Portulaca Oleracea extract group (P=0.012) than that in fatty liver control group. ANGPTL4 levels in the healthy control group was significantly higher than fatty liver control group (p=0.01). levels of this index in HIIT group (p=0.036), Portulaca Oleracea extract (p=0.01) and HIIT+ Portulaca Oleracea extract (p=0.007) was significantly lower than the fatty liver control group. Conclusion: It seems that HIIT and Portulaca Oleracea extract can play an important role in controlling the progression of this disease by reducing the level of ANGPTL4 and insulin resistance in patients with NAFLD.

Aim: Dipeptidyl-peptidase-4 (DPP-4) has been proposed as a bridge between obesity and insulin resistance (IR). The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in serum levels of DPP-4 and HOMA2-IR after eight weeks of interval and continuous-walking in 9-11 year-old obese girls. Method: thirty two-obese girls (age: 9.62±0.75 years and BMI-percentile: 97.38±1.40%) volunteered in this study and were assigned to interval (n=12), continuous (n=11) and control (n=9) groups. The training were performed for 8-weeks, 3-sessions per week (30-min walking in the continuous and interval groups with 60-75%HRmax and 70-85%HRmax, respectively). Interval-walking included 2-min of walking and 1-min of active rest. After 10-hours of fasting, blood sampling was performed before the beginning of training and 72-hours after the last session. The paired t-test was used to examine the within-group changes. Results: Eight weeks of continuous and interval training did not significantly change the levels of DPP-4, insulin, glucose, and HOMA2-IR compared to the control group. Compared to the control group, the interval training resulted in improvement of the body weight, BMI, and BMI percentile (p=0.004, p=0.019, p=0.022), while the BMI only tended to decrease in the continuous training group (p=0.077). Conclusion: It seems that the improvement of the body composition due to the protocol used in this study was not sufficient to make significant changes in the HOMA2-IR and DPP-4 in early-pubertal obese girls.

Method: Male stereptpzosin-induces diabetic rats (n=40) were randomly assigned to five groups (n=8): diabetic+ low intensity endurance training (DL), diabetic+ moderate intensity endurance training (DM), diabetic+ high intensity endurance training (DH), non-diabetic with no training(CON), and diabetic with no training(D). Eight weeks of running (four sessions per week) with different intensities were completed. Western blotting method was used to measure NLRP3. ELISA technique was used to assess serum levels of insulin and glucose. Results: Results showed that expression of NLRP-3 protein were significantly lower in endurance DM (P<0.05) and endurance DH (P<0.05) groups against DL group. Caspase-1 expression was significantly lower in DL (P=0.001), DM (P<0.05), and DH (P<0.05) compared with D group. However, no significant different was found between the training groups. Serum insulin level was significantly lower in endurance DH group compared with endurance DL group (P<0.05).In comparison with D group, significant reduction of serum glucose was observed in endurance DL group (P<0.05), endurance DM (P<0.05), and endurance DH (P<0.05). Conclusion: It appears that training with high and moderate intensities induced positive modulation in NLRP-3 expression as well as improved glycemic factors levels.

Aim: Insulin resistance plays an important role in the development of abnormalities such as impaired glucose tolerance, type2 diabetes, obesity, and hyperlipidemia. The discovery of protein tyrosine phosphatase 1b (PTP-1B) seems to be a milestone in the investigation of insulin signaling transmission. Thus the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of 6 weeks of high intensity interval training (HIIT) on expression of PTP-1B in the muscle tissue in type 2 diabetic rats.. Method: In this study, 20, ten week old diabetic male rats were randomly divided into high intensity interval and control groups. The training group performed training protocol on a treadmill for 6 weeks and 5 session/week, with gradual increase in speed (25-35 m/min) during scheduled runs. Forty-eight hours after the last training session blood and tissue (from gastrocnemius) sampling were carried out in diabetic rats and PTP-1B gene expression was evaluated by Rea-Time PCR method. Data was analyzed using independent t-test and Shapiro Wilk at a significant level of p≤0/05. Results: Findings show that PTP-1B was decreased in the diabetic rats of HIIT group but was not significant (P=0.432). Also, insulin resistance index and fasting glucose significantly were decreased in HIIT group (P=0.001), but serum insulin was increased (P=0.001). Conclusion: According to the results, it seems that HIIT does not affect PTP-1B gene expression, but it improves type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. Aim: Derived hormones from adipokines are include leptin, adiponectin, apelin and omentin. One of the roles of omentin is reducing insulin resistance.The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of aerobic training and resistance training on serum omentin, insulin resistance and lipid profilein women. Method: Twenty four non-active healthy obese postmenopausal women volunteered to participate in this research. They were randomly assigned into two groups: aerobic training group (AT, n=12) resistance training group (RT, n=12). AT group carried out exercises at 55-75 percent of maximal heart rate reserve and RT group carried out training at 60-80 percent of 1RM. Dependent variables were measured in the two phases of the study, including pre-test and post-test. Blood samples were taken 24 hours before starting the first training session and also 48 hours after the last training session. Results: Results of paired samples t-test did not show any significant difference between changes in serum omentin and insulin resistance after aerobic training and resistance training. However, independent samples t-test show significant changes in all of them. Conclusion: The results of intergroup variations showed that there is a significant difference between the effect of eight weeks of resistance and endurance training on the amount of omentin, insulin resistance and lipid profiles. Aim: RBP4 is an adipokin that participates in insulin function and glucose metabolism. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of aerobic training on serum RBP4 levels and insulin resistance index in type 2 diabetic male rats. Method: Eighteen male 8-week-old wistar rats (233.6±13.1 g) were selected as sample research. Diabetes was induced by using nikotinamid and streptozotocin. Five days after inducing diabetes, fasting blood was measured using blood glucose strips and rats that the level of fasting blood glucose was between 400-126 mg was selected as diabetic. Rats were randomly and According to homogenization of body weight assigned into two groups including control (n=9) and trained (n=9).Rats in the training groups carried out an 8-week exercise program on a motorized treadmill with 10–25 m/min for 15-40 min/day and a 5% slope for 5 days. Serum RBP4 levels was measured with Elisa method and insulin resistance was measured by HOMA-IR index. Results: Induction of diabetes caused a significant increase in body weight (p=0.001) and serum RBP4 (p<0.05). Also exercise caused a significant increase in muscle weight in the training group (p<0.05). Serum RBP4 levels after training significantly decreased in comparison with control groups (p<0.05). Also glucose, insulin and insulin resistance index were significantly decreased in the training group compared with the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: it seems that 8 weeks aerobic training with 60-80% vo2max can be effective to decrease the serum RBP4 levels and insulin resistance index in type 2 diabetic patients.

Aim: Retinol binding protein-4 (RBP-4) as an adipokine secreted from adipose tissue, plays an important role in insulin resistance and metabolic disorders. Despite the benefits of aerobic training on metabolic disorders, the effect of aerobic training on RBP-4 and its relation with metabolic factors in patients with metabolic syndrome is unclear. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks aerobic training on serum RBP-4 levels and insulin resistance in women with metabolic syndrome. Methods: In a semi-experimental study, 24 women with metabolic syndrome (age: 52.79±4.91 yrs, BMI: 32.77±2.37 Kg/m2 and VO2peak: 40±2.55 L/min) were randomly assigned into two groups including exercise (n=12) and control (n=12) groups. Aerobic exercise program was performed for 8 weeks, 3 sessions per week with an intensity of 50-60% of peak oxygen consumption for 20-40 minutes. Prior to the experimental period and 48h after last training session, body composition measurements were performed and blood samples were taken to be measured for serum levels of RBP-4, lipid profile, glucose and insulin. Insulin resistance index was also assessed. The data were analyzed using statistical tests of Paired and Independent t-test and Pearson's correlation test at significance level of PResults: The results showed that aerobic training significantly decreased serum RBP-4, glucose, insulin resistance index, body weight, body fat percentage, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference and metabolic syndrome Z score (P<0.05). Moreover, high density lipoprotein HDL - C levels significantly increased following eight weeks aerobic training (P<0.05). Pearson's correlation test revealed that changes in RBP-4 levels was significantly correlated with changes in body fat percentage, triglycerides, insulin and insulin resistance index (P<0.05). Conclusion: Overall, the results of this study indicated that aerobic training can reduce the RBP-4 levels and improve insulin resistance and some metabolic risk factors in women with metabolic syndrome. Insulin resistance improvement is likely to be resulted from decreased RBP-4 levels following aerobic training.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of 10-week negative energy balance (NEB) methods on adipocyte size and adiponectin levels in different abdominal fat depots as well as glucose and lipid variables and insulin resistance in high-fat-diet obese male wistar rats. Methodology: Study sample were consisted of sixty-four Wistar male rats (average weight; 194.5±12.6g). Blood samples were collected at 1st, 18th and 28th weeks after an overnight fasting. After first sampling, remaining 56 rats were randomly divided into control (n=16) and high-fat-diet (n=40) groups. After 18 weeks High-fat-diet group randomly divided into high-fat-diet (HFD) and negative energy balance consisted of calorie restriction, exercise training and combination (exercise training with calorie restriction) subgroups. Negative energy balance subgroups underwent an aerobic training (running) with intensity of 70 to 75% of VO2max, %25 calorie restriction and interval of both methods for 10 weeks. Adiponectin Levels and adipocyte size in retroperitoneal and mesenteric fat depots, insulin and glucose levels and lipid profile were measured. HOMA-IR was also calculated. Results: The results of this study indicated that in comparison to high-fat-diet, negative energy balance methods despite consumption of high fat diet, decreased adipocyte size in retroperitoneal and mesenteric fat depots (P<0.05) and insulin resistance index improved in line with decrease of serum concentrations of insulin, glucose and triglyceride in obese male rats (P<0.05). However although lipid profile improved, only triglyceride concentration significantly decreased (P<0.05). From negative energy balance subgroups only combination showed significant increase in adiponectin levels of studied depots compared to high-fat-diet (P>0.05). Conclusion: This study indicated that negative energy balance methods can actually decrease adipocyte size of retroperitoneal and mesenteric fat depots even with simultaneous consumption of high-fat-diet which is largely congruent with improvement in lipid and metabolic profile Results also indicate a superiority of aerobic training in improving the lipid profile compare to other NEB methods.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of aerobic-resistance training on visceral adipose tissue, serum omentin-1 and insulin resistance in ovariectomized (OVX) rats. Methodology: Fifty Female Wistar rats (weight, 180±5g) were divided accidental and according body weight into five groups: SHAM (n=20) and OVX (n=30) groups. OVX rats were subdivided into 2 Ovx+sedentary (Sedentary; n=20) groups and one aerobic-resistance training (Ovx+Exe; n=10) group. Two weeks after surgery, one group of OVX rats and one group of SHAM rats were sacrificed and omentin-1, insulin resistance and visceral fat were measured. The other OVX rats were randomly divided into the following subgroups: 1) OVX and sedentary (Sedentary); 2) OVX and Exercise (Ovx+Exe). The exercise consisted of 8 weeks of aerobic-resistance exercise (3 days/week, 20 m/min, 60 min/day, 10% slope, Load; 3% body weight, attached to tail), three days a week. After complete anesthesia, the abdominal cavity was rapidly opened and blood samples were collected. All intraabdominal fat were dissected out and weighed immediately. Omentin-1 was measured by rat omentin ELISA kit. HOMA-IR was used to estimate the insulin resistance. Results: There was no significant differences between weights means all groups. After two weeks of surgery, there was no significant difference between visceral fat, omentin-1 and HOMA-IR in SHAM2 compared to OVX2. After eight weeks, combined aerobic-resistance training in Ovx+Exe significantly decreased visceral fat gain induced via ovariectomy by 21/4% compared to the level observed in Sedentary; whereas, visceral fat significantly increased by 92.5% in OVX2 compared to SHAM2 (p<0.05). Omentin-1 increased in Ovx+Exe compared to Sedentary and SHAM, by56/5% and51/6%, respectively; whereas it was significantly decreased by3/1% in Sedentary compared to SHAM (p<0.05). HOMA-IR induced via ovariectomy significantly decreased by74.7% in Ovx+Exe compared to Sedentary; whereas, it significantly increased by 193.7% in OVX2 compared to SHAM2 (p<0/05). Also, HOMA-IR decreased in Ovx+Exe compared to SHAM2, but it was n ́t significant. Conclusion: 8 week aerobic-resistance training successfully decreased visceral fat and insulin resistance via increasing omentin-1. So, it seems that 8-week aerobic-resistance training with 70-85% Vo2max is suitable for controlling body weight gain, decreasing visceral fat and insulin resistance and increasing omentin-1 in menopause period.

Objective: Even in young people, insulin resistance is associated with physical inactivity and obesity. It has been shown that novel insulin resistance indexes have clinical value. The purpose of present study was to investigate the effect of a period of resistance training on novel insulin resistance indexes in sedentary young obese men. Methodology: In a semi-experimental study, twenty one sedentary young obese men were randomly placed at two groups: resistance training (n=10, 26.7±3.3 yr, 32.6±2.8 kg/m2) and control (n=11, 27.1±3.1 yr, 32.2±3.3 kg/m2). General characteristics of subjects, serum resistin concentration, and homeostasis model assessment-adiponectin (HOMA-AD), adiponectin-resistin (AR), and (insulin resistance) IRAR indexes were assessed before and after the training. Resistance training protocol consisted of twelve weeks weight training (3 sessions per week, 10 stations, 3 sets 8-12 repetitions in each station, intensity 60-80% of one repetition maximum, rest between sets 1 min and between stations 2 min, duration of main training 65-70 min per each session). Results: Resistance training decreased serum resistin concentration (P<0.05), HOMA-AD (P<0.05), AR (P<0.05) and IRAR (P<0.05), while none of mentioned parameters in control group showed any significant changes. The compartion pre-test and post-test means of these indexes between two groups showed significant differences (P<0.05). Conclusion: Resistance training reduces levels of novel insulin resistance indexes in sedentary young obese men that can have a practical value with regard to prevention against risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases for this population group.

Aim: Omentin-1 is an adipokine that is highly secreted in visceral adipose tissue compared to subcutaneous adipose tissue and increases insulin sensitivity. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of 8-week resistance training on omentin-1¬ plasma levels in insulin resistant male rats. Method: Twenty-four Wistar male rats¬ with average weight¬ 161±23 gr were randomly divided into three groups: health control, insulin resistance control, insulin resistance training. After fructose-inducing insulin resistance to the two groups of insulin resistance control and insulin resistance training bleeding in all subjects was done then training group was exercised for 8 weeks (3d/wk). In the training protocol, a ladder was used on which rats carriedpen loads suspended from their tails. After the training session omentin-1, insulin, glucose, lipids profile plasma concentration and (HOMA-IR) index were measured. Results: The results of this study indicate that 8 weeks of resistance training can cause significant increase of omentin-1 and HDL-C plasma concentration in insulin resistance training group (P≤0.05) and insulin, glucose, cholesterol, LDL-C, TG plasma concentration and (HOMA-IR) index were decreased. Conclusion: This study indicates that resistance training increases omentin-1 plasma concentration in insulin resistance rats and improves lipids and metabolic profile.

Aim: Adipocyte fatty acid-binding protein (A-FABP) is a plasma biomarker recently associated with the obesity. Exercise training may reduce the adipose tissue, although it is not truly known whether exercise–induced change in adipose tissue, decreases A-FABP concentrations or not; therefore the aim of this study was to investigate A-FABP concentrations in middle-aged men after 8 weeks high intensity aerobic training.
Method: Twenty two sedentary obese middle-aged men (age: 46.4±2.3 years, body mass index (BMI): 32.8±2.0 kg/m2 and maximum oxygen uptake: 34.4±2.6 ml.kg-1.min-1; mean±SD) volunteered to participate in this study. The subjects were randomly assigned to the training group (n=11) or control group (n=11). The training group performed high intensity aerobic training 3 days a week for 8 weeks at an intensity corresponding to 75-80% individual maximum oxygen consumption for 45 min.
Results: The results showed that the BMI and body fat percentage were decreased in the training group compared to the control group (p<0.05). After 8 weeks of HIT, the training group resulted in a significant decrease (p<0.05) in the A-FABP and insulin resistance compared with the control group.
Conclusion: The results suggest aerobic training with the specific intensity and duration utilized in this study decreases A-FABP concentrations in obese middle-aged men.

Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of exercise training in water on serum adiponectin and insulin resistance in obese children and adolescents.
Method: For this purpose 60 obese subjects (children 10-12 years and adolescents 14-16 years) were randomly assigned into one of four groups: exercise training in water for both children and adolescents, and control groups (children and adolescents). Experimental groups underwent exercise training for 8 weeks; 3 sessions per week and 60 minutes per session, with an intensity of 60-85% of maximum heart rate. Blood samples, anthropometric and body composition measures were taken before and after training program.
Results: Data analysis using ANOVA showed that exercise training in water caused a significant decrease in body fat percent, and increase in VO2max in the children and adolescents. Exercise training in water had no effect on serum adiponectin and insulin resistance.
Conclusion: In summary, since 8 weeks exercise training in water did not cause weight loss, it probably had no effect on adiponectin and insulin resistance.
